I got a chance to play with Google Glass recently. I was not one of the many people instantly attracted to it when I first heard about it, so I was amazed to discover that I really liked it! The display is not distracting (or not as distracting as I feared) and it is pretty easy to interact with.
More importantly, the folks currently “testing” Google Glass (“Developers”) are designing interesting things to do with it. There are games and educational tools all sorts of cool stuff. The MSU folks who were kind enough to share their Glass with us are looking at how Glass can be used to allow journalists to tell stories a bit differently. I wonder if it can be used to provide interaction cues to autistic kids in real time.
Of course, you need to work up to long-term use of Glass or risk getting a headache, and players look very strange playing (what appear to be imaginary) games while staring two feet in front of their face. But still. Cool and full of possibilities.
